Mr. Daniel Blakely Lester passed away on August 4, 2024.
Dan was born to Marguerite (Lovett) Lester and Daniel B. Lester on April 21, 1935, in Hilltonia, Georgia.
He grew up in Augusta, Georgia and graduated from the Academy of Richmond County there.
He attended classes at Georgia Tech before going to work doing mechanical contracting – finally taking a job with H.E. Hennigh, Inc and settling down in Cedartown, Georgia. There he met and married Othella Grogan in September 1963.
Dan was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully over the years in many church callings including Branch President, Stake High Councilor, and Atlanta Temple Ordinance worker.
After leaving H.E. Hennigh, he started his own HVAC business – Dan Lester Company – and after closing he went to work for the Polk School District Facilities and Maintenance Department and then finished his career with the Facilities Maintenance Group for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Dan had a lifelong curiosity and enjoyed reading history, science, and mystery novels. He had a love for chess, puzzles, games, and especially for golf. And after retirement he and Othella spent a lot of time together on the golf course with each other and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Othella (Grogan) Lester and sister, Margaret (Lester) Bourn.
He is survived by his sister Bettye (Lester) Cranmer; his first cousin/honorary sister, Blakely Ruth (Lovett) Aspinwall; his children Robert Lester (Kristin Day), Mike Lester (Tammy Morris); his grandchildren Jonathan Lester (Emily Rogers), Ashleigh (Lester) McGrath (Matt McGrath), Andrew Lester, Jackson Lester, Ethan Lester, and Joshua Lester; 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mr. Lester will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at one o’clock in the afternoon at the Cedartown Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Inurnment will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The family of Mr. Lester will receive family and friends on Saturday, August 10, 2024 from eleven o’clock in the morning until the memorial service hour at the Cedartown Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to a hospice group of your choosing in Mr. Lester’s memory.
