Opportunity to learn about local government coming up in June
Polk County government is giving people the opportunity to learn about how things work in and out of their offices during first-ever Polk County Citizens Academy happening in June.
Applications are open for the new Citizens Academy through April 15 for those who are 18 and older and live, work or have an expressed interest in Polk County. Additionally, anyone with a felony conviction or a history of criminal activity with local law enforcement need not apply.
The Citizens Academy over a five-week course in June will cover how the various departments within the county government work, from administration to planning and zoning and many more.
There is a $10 fee to take part in the program. That helps cover the cost of a t-shirt for each participant.
Space for the program will be limited, and applicants will be notified if they have been selected by May 1.
