Editor’s note: Usually I like to celebrate a bit more with the 2024 Citizen of the Year coverage, but unfortunately the award was given out during the same evening as the Rockmart Christmas Parade and the scheduling conflict went in favor of Santa and the parade versus the award and Dr. Buttrum. -KtE

After local residents made nominations and the decision was mulled over, Polk County Commissioners announced this year’s Citizen of the Year during their December work session last week on Tuesday, December 3.

Buttrum, a former employee for four decades with the Polk School District and the pastor of the Cedartown Calvary Assembly of God for the past 54 years.

He was specifically recognized by proclamation for his “servants heart, and actively searches for ways to make a positive impact in everyone’s life that he comes into contact with.”

Commission Chair Hal Floyd gave out the award to Buttrum. He is the sixth recipient of the County’s Citizen of the Year award.
