The Georgia Department of Public Health’s COVID-19 dashboard reported a new death for COVID-19 as the week came to a close, bringing the total up to 73 since last May.

The 90+ year old African American male had no co-morbidity factors in his death. He’s the second reported by the DPH this month and brought the total for 2021 so far to 29.

Additionally, a new probable death was reported in the most recent update, putting the total at 10 since tracking for those figures began last year.

Here’s a full list of the confirmed deaths reported so far for 2021.

The DPH puts the total number of new COVID cases locally now at 3,774, which is the largest increase since February 24. It is the first double-digit increase of the month of March as well for PCR cases. On March 3 through March 5, the total number of new positives only increased by seven each day.

The two-week average of new PCR positives did bounce slightly over the past three days, but has leveled back out at 7.9%, while the overall percentage of positive since tracking began has stayed steadily at 15.8% over the past six days.

Along with PCR cases, antigen positives have remained low as well, jumping by only four over the past three days to 1,518.

The first major increase in hospitalizations reported by the DPH also happened this afternoon, up by six after a three-day run without any new admissions reported at all.

One additional number to note is the total number of vaccinations, now at 6,730. The state’s dashboard for vaccines administered put the daily total at 130 for March 5.

Statewide totals of COVID-19 growth remain on a daily basis through the opening days of the month past the 1,500+ mark. This afternoon’s update put the total at 1,462 new PCR cases, and 1,100 new antigen positives. It put the total of PCR cases since tracking began at 827,397 and 194,381 antigen positives.

Hospitalizations stood at 56,762 admissions, and now 9,260 total ICU admissions. Today’s growth of new admissions stood at 135 Georgians.

Sadly, the number of deaths from COVID continue to climb. 73 people were reported to have perished from the virus today statewide, bringing the overall figure to 15,597 who have died from the virus.

More than 2.3 million Georgians have now received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 2.8 million doses have been shipped across the state to more than 1,215 providers.

Nationally, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention put the total number of COVID cases since January 2021 at 28,714,163 people who have contracted the virus, and more than 521,000 people have died.

The number of vaccinations now stands at 87,912,323 who have had at least one dose of the vaccine since distribution began late last year, and of that 57,358,849 have gotten the first dose.
