Over the past three days, Polk County has seen a double-digit increase in cases but other indicators remained flat according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.
From Saturday through this afternoon, the DPH data showed an increase of 30 cases of COVID-19 out of an increase of 136 new test results submitted over the past three days. That put Polk’s overall figure now at 1,627, and pushed the county’s overall figure past another milestone this past Saturday when 14 of the cases were reported at the time. Sunday and today saw eight cases added a day.
It did mark an increase in the past two weeks of testing in the past three days from 9.2% reported on Saturday to 9.8% reported this afternoon. The overall rate also increased from 12.5% to 12.6% over the past three days, and held steady there today after the jump on Sunday.
What stayed flat over the weekend and to start the week: deaths and hospitalizations from the virus. Polk County’s overall numbers remained at 25 deaths attributed to the novel coronavirus, and 117 patients treated in area medical centers for COVID-19. That increase last week was six overall, along with the four deaths reported in three days.
Statewide, numbers tracked back downward over the weekend of new cases reported on a daily basis, going from 1,554 positives reported on Saturday to 766 reported on Monday. That would account for the new cases tallied in every day from Friday to Saturday, through the weekend and then cases reported from Sunday to Monday for decreases.
Georgia’s total number of deaths also trended downward from the 51 reported on Saturday to the 19 reported today, and hospitalizations went down from 133 reported on Saturday to just 12 admissions over the weekend.
However tallied together, the past three days have seen some 171 people admitted to statewide medical centers for the treatment of COVID-19, and 101 people who died from the virus were reported by the state in that time period. Additionally, the total number of cases that were reported were at 3,519 overall. That jump put Georgia at 341,310 overall positives for COVID-19, but the overall percentage rate went down to 9.6%, after a four-day run at 9.7%.
Overall, the number of hospital patients stood at 30,388, with 5,665 people who have needed intensive care treatment to help with the symptoms of COVID-19.
Sadly, COVID-19’s death toll statewide stood at 7,657 as of this afternoon’s report.
As of data confirmed by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as of Sunday some 8,128,524 people have tested positive for COVID-19 nationwide. Out of that figure, 218,986 deaths have been attributed to COVID-19 or symptoms of the virus that worsened other conditions.
