When will the Cedartown High School Class of 2025 get to don their cap and gowns and cross the stage?

First it was set for Friday morning, May 23, 2025 but now a change of course has been reported by the superintendent and the date has changed again.

Dr. Katie Thomas sent the following e-mail to both Polk Today and the Polk County Standard Journal following publication of information about the new graduation date:

Per the email, (in case it is difficult to read on some devices:)

“Cedartown High School’s graduation will be Thursday, May 22 at 8:00 pm. The last day of school will be Thursday, May 22 as approved. I apologize for the miscommunication. Thank you.”

The graduation date change comes just two days after the Board of Education approved a calendar change for the 2024-25 academic year moving the last day of school up to Thursday, May 22 from Friday, May 23. (Editor’s note: that coverage has now been made freely available to all.)

Here’s footage from that meeting, or you can watch the whole thing here:

Polk Today called and texted Dr. Thomas for clarification on the second graduation date and time change, but have not yet received a response back.

Per her above email, the change to Cedartown’s graduation date and time does not impact the voted change of the last day of school on the academic calendar which remains on May 22 with the approval of the Board of Education on Tuesday.

No changes have been made to Rockmart High’s graduation date and time. They remain at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 23.
