The annual remembrance of the nation’s continuing voice for Civil Rights is coming up on Monday, and plans are in place to continue a tradition of honoring that voice here in Cedartown.

Participants in this year’s MLK Walk down Main Street in Cedartown will need to gather before the 1 p.m. start on Monday, January 16, 2023 at the corner of Marietta and Rock Street.

The annual walk down Main Street continues a multi-year tradition of honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., organized by the Morgan family and many others throughout the years. Their continued goal is to celebrate the life of Dr. King and the principles he stood for throughout the struggle for Civil Rights in the south.

Following the walk, a ceremony will be held in Holloway Park in front of the historic Polk County Courthouse No. 2. Pastor Monique McIntosh will offer a welcome, and Zion Youth Department will offer words of inspiration.

Young Daughter of Zion will perform a dance, and Pastor Ryan Morris will provide a rendition of Dr. King’s legendary “I Have A Dream” speech.

This year’s keynote speaker is Apostle Trixie Morgan, who will also offer a final blessing.

Refreshments will be available afterward at 230 Marietta St., Cedartown for those in attendance who want to join.

This year’s walk is hosted by Zion A Habitation of God’s Glory and Power headed by Apostle Morgan.

The annual holiday celebrating the life of Dr. King has been observed officially as a national holiday for the past 37 years and marks Dr. King’s birthday.
