A scholarship was provided to a Cedartown senior during awards night Monday honoring the legacy of a young woman taken too soon from the Rockmart community, though her spirit still lives on through the work her family and friends are taking up on her behalf.

Among that work is providing scholarships to softball players, and this year senior Lady Bulldog Alexas Poole was given the honor of a monetary award from The Tori Luke Foundation, presented by former Rockmart High School softball coach and Tori’s father, Steve Luke.

Poole, who has already signed paperwork to continue her athletic career in college at Southern Union, is one of three students this year being honored with a scholarship from the foundation.

Two others will be presented to coming graduates during Rockmart High School’s senior award night coming up.

The Tori Luke Foundation formed following the tragic passing of Tori Luke last summer just ahead of the start of the Rockmart Lady Jackets softball season. The team went on fight for a state title but came out in second place on the year.

Luke would have been a freshman on the team in 2020 playing for her father. He resigned after the season concluded.

Check back for more on scholarship awards given out by the Tori Luke Foundation later this week.
